Studio Murmur is a Chicago based design studio and manufacturer founded in 2009 by designers T.J. Thomas and Audra Bielskus. We strive to create inspired and diligently considered products that emphasize simplicity and celebrate everyday living. Rather than creating desire around trend-driven objects we focus on the qualities and values that truly define great brands and great design. We serve a variety of clients and industries including furniture and lighting manufacturers, home and office retailers, architects and the hospitality industry.
|T.J. Thomas is co-founder and principal of Studio Murmur. He holds degrees in both Industrial Design and Psychology and worked in the studios of Eric Pfeiffer and Michael Graves before founding Studio Murmur with Audra Bielskus in 2009. T.J. has also trained and practiced as a fine furniture maker and, with Martin Linder, co-founded the Furniture Institute of Technology and Sustainability (FITS), a center for design and research developed within the Design and Industry Department at San Francisco State University. He is currently an adjunct assistant professor at the School of Art and Design at the University of Illinois - Chicago.|
|Audra Bielskus is co-founder and principal of Studio Murmur. In 2006, after earning a B.A. in Industrial Design from Purdue University, she accepted a position with the Michael Graves Design Group in Princeton, New Jersey. There, she designed kitchen and housewares products for Target and collaborated with Mr. Graves on a lighting project for the Neue Galerie in New York. As staff designer, she led a small team designing over 500 pieces of furniture, lighting and fixtures for a $4 billion hotel and casino project in Singapore. In the fall of 2009, she moved back to her hometown, Chicago, to open Studio Murmur with colleague T.J. Thomas.|
